Academy of Floristry in Bournemouth,  Level 2 diploma in Floristry, also shop based.

Q: Why did you choose to do floristry as a career?

A: I’ve always preferred an active job rather than an office job, I had considered going into equine at collage as I have horses, but I wasn’t sure. I’m glad I didn’t, although I love keeping horses as a hobby.  I’ve always loved flowers, after doing some work experience throughout the summer at a local shop I decided it was definitely the way to go!

Q: What do your family and friends think?

A: My family helped me explore different options and direct me. My friends thought it was weird that I wasn’t in full time college the same as them, but it was the right thing to do. I don’t really enjoy being in a classroom as such. Corbins, where I work, were so supportive, I think it’s so important to find the right shop to start in. It really helped me through college and my confidence increased massively because of them.

Q:  What’s the best bit about your chosen career?

A: I do love setting up weddings and seeing everyone’s different styles.

Q:  Have you any regrets?

A: No, it’s been great!

Q:  Where do you hope to be in the future?

A: I love working at Corbins and I’ve been offered a full-time job there which is fantastic!  I’m excited to expand my knowledge and skills there.

Q:  What advice would you give to anyone thinking about taking up floristry?

A: Just go for it! There weren’t many colleges that offered floristry, and Bournemouth is a bit of a drive for me, but I think it’s worth it if it’s something you want to do! It definitely isn’t a boring job! Get as much experience as you can.

Q: What would you like to tell the world about floristry?

A: I think there should be more promotion of creative careers in school, I was always directed into an academic pathway. And more opportunities for apprenticeships and colleges within the industry.
