Sustainability – it’s in our DNA

Responsible sourcing with National Florist Day.

Flowers … quite simply the most amazing product in the world.

Afterall, what else can lift your spirits in a totally calorie free way?

How else can you get an instant and oh so natural mood boost?

Why does a room look so much better with a simple vase of flowers?

Because, quite simply, flowers are wonderful, and the ‘go to’ choice when people want to say I Love You, I’m Sorry, Happy Birthday, You’re the Best or just buy a bunch for themselves as an end of week pick-me-up!

But not only does the flower industry produce amazing, heart lifting, goosebump inducing blooms, they are leading the way when it comes to making sure the three pillars of sustainability – People, Planet and Profit – are observed every step of the way too.  And it’s an ongoing process.

Because being ‘green’ isn’t a choice … it’s a necessity.  Not just because we have a conscious consumer but because it is the right thing to do.  And for the flower industry it’s a number one priority and has been for years.

It knows it isn’t perfect (heck what industry is!) and it’s a constant challenge to get better but from grower to florist, doing the right thing – whenever it’s possible – is the goal.  Sometimes it may be baby steps but overall, it is a giant walk.

In fact, based on our unique knowledge of the sector we reckon the flower industry isn’t just leading the way but being pretty groundbreaking in how it addresses a huge topic.

What’s more it’s being done in a way that doesn’t just protect our planet but continues to provide employment for millions around the world, many of whom would struggle to survive without the flower industry.

It’s a big old subject and we could probably write a book about it, but in this section, and in as light a way as possible for a very serious subject, we look at some of the changes and try to dispel some of the myths surrounding the world of flowers.
